Changing the perspective for your business

Viewing something through a different lens will give you a totally new perspective.

I read a lot. Every now and then, something I read sticks with me. It’s that way with Josh Kaufmann’s excellent book “The Personal MBA” and in particular, his ‘zoomed out’ definition of a business.

I think it’s worth repeating here because I think it helps elevate your thoughts above the detail of the day-to-day. Kaufmann says:

Roughly defined, a business is a repeatable process that:

  1. Creates and delivers something of value…
  2. That other people want or need…
  3. At a price they are willing to pay…
  4. In a way that satisfies the customer’s needs and expectations…
  5. So that the business brings in enough profit to make it worthwhile for the owners to continue operation.

Go ahead and apply that definition to your business, being sure not to overlook the importance of the words ‘repeatable process’. Now that you have the benefit of this perspective, let’s derive some value from the exercise.

‘Winning’ in business is all about what you do. Your decisions, your actions. So, what will you do differently today, tomorrow and the next day to change the course of your business for the better?
