Who Says Manufacturing Is Dead?

The Wrap-up from our National Manufacturing Week Dinner

BridgePoint Group hosted a dinner on the 9th of May to coincide with the launch of National Manufacturing Week. The dinner was a rousing success!

Alongside representatives from industry, we were honoured to be joined by senior figures from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Council, Austrade, the Export Finance and Investment Corporation and the University of NSW.

The group heard that according to the Australian Industry Group’s Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) had grown in each of the past 19 months, a result not seen since 2005. Meanwhile, with the investment being made by Government to stimulate innovation among our manufacturers and foster collaboration between industry and our universities, the immediate future also looks bright.

BridgePoint Group Managing Director, Neil Parker, said:

“Ever since I was a young boy growing up in Sydney, I took inspiration from Australians that could take on the world and win. Anyone who was alive in 1983 will remember where they were when Australia II sailed past the finish to complete that amazing America’s Cup triumph. It’s stuff like that and then looking at companies like BHP, that started from nothing but grew to be one of the world’s largest mining companies that tells me that our manufacturing sector can also be great.

“And looking around the room tonight, it’s clear that reports of the death of manufacturing in Australia are greatly exaggerated. There are a number of companies represented here tonight, that are already doing well and have the potential to become great. To export their product around the globe. And with the support of groups like AMGC, Austrade and EFIC the opportunity has never been greater. So, I encourage you to engage with them, build your network of supports, and never look back.”
